One Essex Court is delighted to announce that The Rt Hon Sir Andrew Morritt CVO has accepted an invitation to join Chambers.
Sir Andrew retired from the bench in England and Wales in February 2013. He was called to the Bar in 1962. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1977 and was Attorney-General to the Prince of Wales from 1978 to 1988. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court in 1988 and assigned to the Chancery Division.
Sir Andrew served from 1991 to 1994 as Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster, the judge responsible for Chancery Division business in the North and North East of England. In 1994, he was promoted to the Court of Appeal, and received the customary appointment to the Privy Council. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Supreme Court in 2000 (subsequently renamed Chancellor of the High Court in 2005) from which he retired in February 2013. Sir Andrew sits as a retired judge in British overseas territories, such as the Cayman Islands, and also accepts appointments as an arbitrator.
