One Essex Court is delighted to note the appointment of James Edelman to the High Court of Australia.
His Honour Justice Edelman practised as a barrister at the chambers of Mr Malcolm McCusker QC in Western Australia from 2001-2011 and at One Essex Court from 2008-2011. He was elected as a Fellow of Keble College, Oxford where he taught from 2005, and as Professor of the Law of Obligations at the University of Oxford from 2008 until 2011. From 2011 to 2015 he was a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
In announcing the appointment, the Australian Prime Minister described 42 year old Edelman, as “one of the most outstanding legal minds of his generation”.
The Turnbull government has also appointed Susan Kiefel as Chief Justice – the first woman to lead the High Court of Australia – replacing Robert French, who retires from the bench in January 2017.
