Alex has a formidable reputation at the commercial Bar, particularly in international arbitration and litigation in the energy, insurance, construction and shipping sectors. Alex specialises in complex, high-value international disputes, predominantly resolved in arbitration and he has appeared before panels constituted under ICC, LCIA, HKIAC, LMAA, UNCITRAL and DIAC rules. He is frequently instructed by large commercial clients in major disputes concerning international construction projects, shipbuilding, commodities and mining, and he has a particularly strong energy and natural resources practice. Alex is lead counsel in disputes concerning a series of high-profile infrastructure projects, including the Kashagan offshore oilfield project, the Marmaray rail project and the South Stream pipeline, and is consistently recognised by the legal directories, with Chambers UK Bar 2019 acknowledging him as “a highly impressive advocate for the largest, most complex cases” whose “advocacy skills are superb”.
